It's been a minute since I've posted here...just wanted to say ~ Happy Valentine's Day! The annual McBoing Boing VD Mix ~ Love Me Love Me Not #5 is here for your listening pleasure! Grab that special someone and get in the lovin' mood...

I was digging through an old hard drive and came upon this mix from the old Million Dollar Disco forum days... so I thought I'd share it with y'all--- a bit of cool heat for a summer day!

Now You Want Me ~ McBB House Mix

I've been meaning to do an old school house mix for quite some time. When I learned of Romanthony's passing earlier this week I tore into my crates to get this thing done. Rest In Peace Romanthony ~ one of NJ's true house pioneers! Have a great holiday weekend everyone!

Kevin McCord heaters

Some Detroit heat from Boogie Soul Maestro Kevin McCord on a hot Thursday morning.
Kickin' it off with one he co-wrote with Alicia Myers (and plays bass on) for Al Hudson & One Way...
After Alicia Myers left One Way Kevin produced her debut solo lp with this killer on it...

Vincent Montana Jr. R.I.P.

R.I.P. Vincent Montana Jr. ~ I was saddened to learn of the passing of a real Disco Godfather this weekend!  Truly one of the greats!  The Philly music scene would not have been the same without him.  I had the pleasure of visiting him at his home to do an interview for Wax Poetics a few years ago. Here are some pix from my day with Vince...
& the link to the piece I wrote: http://www.waxpoetics.com/features/articles/heavy-vibes

I Wanna Give You Tomorrow ~ Modern Soul Mix

I wanted welcome in the Fall with a mix of Modern Soul 45s...
Some classics and obscure cuts that capture that aching, romantic soul of Autumn.
Please enjoy "I Wanna Give You Tomorrow"!

We Live in Brooklyn

While I haven't lived in Brooklyn in over 20 years, I still know a few people who do...My friends in the Names You Can Trust crew have been holding down a regular party at the Sycamore in Flatbush for a minute.
E's E, Monk One & Oneman invited 16 DJs to join them for a little Labor Day weekend BBQ in the backyard of the bar.  To accommodate the throng of selectors we spun 3 records apiece all afternoon and into the night.  It was a great day of eclectic sets from some of my favorite DJs in NY. Much thanks to E's E for holding down double duty as the pit master of ceremonies ~ he served up some hot Latin sounds to go with his slow grilled BBQ!
Here is a mix of my 3 sets of 3 in order + some pix from the day...

Somebody (Charly Thomas) ~ Au Weia

A bit of Friday afternoon fun(k) in the form of an obscure 45 from Germany.  "Au Weia" was written by Charly Thomas under the guise of "Somebody".  An infectious slab of organ driven funk from 1974, it's one of my favorite Laughing tracks (perhaps second only to Jim Backus & Friends : Delicious).  This one's going out to the old school Aubette NYC crew ~ Late night shots, tatter tots, chocolate fondue & Somebody on repeat...

Skratch Bastid & The Gaff - SOUL SISTERS, STAND UP!

The Gaff came through my crib earlier this week to check out some 45s, talk obscure breaks and hit me off with a hard copy of his & Skratch Bastid's new mix "Soul Sisters, Stand Up!"  This one's for all the heads and has been blowing up the Internet since it was released a couple of weeks ago...

It's a seamless blend of Sister Funk Classics old & new, and whether you've been listening to these tracks for years or are coming to them for the first time ~ there is a sense of instant recognition at the same time that there's a thrill of new discovery because of the joy with which these two have put their cuts together.  A definite labor of love it took them over 2 years of passing tracks and sections back and forth to come up with this fine tuned soul mover!  It's been on constant repeat here at Chez McBoing Boing, so I wanted to spread the love!
They've broken it into 2 parts for easier consumption...You can stream or download them here:

+ as a bonus ~ they made a video of them cutting up their Freda Payne x JVC Force routine!
Enjoy!

Mix hit the mercury high yesterday - re-upped now for downloads

Wow! Thanks for all the positive feedback about the new blog and new mix! The Hot Summer Fun! mix hit the 100 download limit in less than 24 hours! So I've re-upped it ~ if you got closed out yesterday or haven't had a chance to check it out yet please have a listen here: http://soundcloud.com/dj-mcboing-boing/hot-summer-fun

Summertime ~ McBB Edit

It looks like we almost hit 100 degrees here in NYC on the second day of Summer!
So I decided to dig out this edit to share for y'all...this one is from the 2007 Million Dollar Disco Edit battle where it tied for 1st place with my good friend DJ Duckcomb's edit.  Maybe if we ask nicely he'll send his edit over to post up...?

New Blog ~ New Mix

Alright!  I've been meaning to do this for a minute...yes a new DJ McBoing Boing Blog!
This one will be dedicated to mixes, new tracks/edits ~ music of all shapes and sizes!  I'll highlight everything from old school favorites to shiny new discoveries freshly excavated out of grimy old basements!  So sit back, hold onto your hats & get down with the sound of two hands clapping!

To kick things off I've cooked up a nice little Summer mix...enjoy!
